Wizdigin Releases Mage 1.0 on iTunes Store

Dueling Game for iPhone/iPod Touch Brings Players Face to Face

March 21, 2009--Wizdigin, an emerging New Media Entertainment company based in Atlanta, has released its first game, a contest of wit and wizardry called Mage. Currently available on the Apple iTunes Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch, Mage uses Apple’s motion-sensing technology to create a realistic dueling experience in which players battle face to face.

“Part of the fun is creating your avatar, the character that represents you in the game.” explains game designer Brian Ashbaugh. “You just wave your finger across the screen to change skin tone, hair style, costume, pose. Your avatar displays on your opponent’s screen during a duel.”

The idea of dueling face to face was important to game developer David House. “I wanted the players to be able to act and react as they duel. It’s so much more realistic that way. On the game screen, you see your opponent’s avatar—his character in the world of Mage. But the duel itself is live action. You draw the runes on the screen and then make a motion to cast the spells at your opponent. Skill and speed are important. The winner will be the one who knows the runes best and can cast them the fastest.”

House adds that the game also offers a single-player option for the Mage-in-training. “So when you need practice, or you don’t have a live opponent, you can duel system avatars of various ranks.”

Mage is set in a classic fantasy world where the feudal kingdoms struggle to maintain their sovereignty against the ever present threat of conquest. Players step into this world as Magi, sorcerors of an ancient order pledged to defend and protect these kingdoms. Armed with ancient wisdom and power, they duel to preserve the independence of the realms they serve—and to increase their own rank and power as Magi.

“There is much more to the story of the Magi,” says House, “but you’ll have to wait and find out when we launch the web comic!” Wizdigin plans to produce a web comic around the world of Mage later this Spring.
